TORONTO, Ont.- Child care workers with Kids and Company Child Care in Toronto have voted to join the Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE). The 110 workers, from 8 child-care centres located throughout Toronto, voted to join CUPE in a certification vote supervised by the Ontario Labour Relations Board./>

Over 100 child care workers will now be part of the CUPE family – benefiting from Canada’s biggest union, representing the largest number of child care workers,”d Laura Moore, CUPE national representative. t is also very fitting that we are welcoming our new members on the eve of Child Care Worker Appreciation Day.”

October 25th marks the 6th annual Early Childhood Educator – Child Care Worker Appreciation Day in Ontario. CUPE will join parents, employers and the public to celebrate, honour and thank thousands of child care workers who provide professional child care services to children every day.

CUPE advocates for quality, accessible child care, provided by dedicated professional workers. As the leading Canadian union in the child care sector, CUPE continues to wage successful public awareness campaigns on child care issues.

We will continue to help child care workers by organizing non-unionized workers, to improve their wages, benefits and working conditions,”d Moore. CUPE represents more than 15,000 child care workers across Canada.
