The B.C. Liberal government’s proposed new Water Sustainability Act has the laudable goals of protecting surface and ground water, but its focus on opening B.C. waters to market forces is a dangerous step in the wrong direction, says CUPE BC’s Water Watch coordinator in an online submission to the government’s consultations on the proposed legislation.

It’s unclear what the government’s next move will be now that consultations have ended. At some point a Bill will be introduced in the Legislature for debate, but whether that will happen in the coming Spring Session is unknown. Keep an eye on www.keepwaterpublic.ca for more information as we learn it.
