  • WHEN: Friday, May 12, 11 a.m.
  • WHERE: Dutch Inn, North River
  • WHY: Saving medicare and the Canadian health care system is the Number One priority and CUPE members in PEI have made it clear to the Binns government that they will fight to save it.

We must all battle against threats to medicare like Alberta Premier Ralph Kleins Bill 11 because it will lead to the destruction of health care.

In PEI, we successfully stopped a public-private hospital plan last year. And CUPE PEI members were front and centre during the Save Medicare ambulance tour.

Now we are again in a struggle over public health care jobs and services. This time it is at the new Prince County Hospital where cook and chill food preparation may put 16 jobs at risk.

Other speakers include CUPE national secretary-treasurer Geraldine McGuire and CUPE national diversity vice-president Fred Loft.

CUPE is Canadas largest union, representing 480,000 women and men in health care, education, municipalities, social services, libraries, utilities, transportation and airlines.
