CUPE takes the needs of members who experience harassment and discrimination seriously.
Not every member will feel comfortable using a formal complaint process and, in some instances, there is no formal process available to meets their needs after an incident.
When this is the case, members can reach out to the Safer Union Spaces Office to access an Informal Intervention process. These options exist outside of the formal complaint process.
This is a voluntary process that aims to address safety, emotional well-being and, when appropriate, creates opportunity for the person who caused harm to take accountability.
This process is created together by the person who was harmed and the person who caused the harm. It is flexible and can be adjusted based on what each person needs.
It is up to the Safer Union Spaces Office to decide whether this process is a good fit for the situation.
Some options available are:
- No/low contact agreements.
- Agreements about use of space/activities.
- Accountability Coaching
- Submission of an Impact Statement.
- Restorative Process.
