HAMILTON – Local 4800 of the Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE), representing 3,200 employees at Hamilton Health Sciences, will hold a news conference at 11:30 a.m., tomorrow, Thursday, December 6th, at the Public Library (Concession Branch), 565 Concession Street, in Hamilton. (please use rear entrance).

The workers will be launching a campaign for accountability and sound financial management at HHS after their employer refused to follow central negotiations covering hospital workers at 160 Ontario hospitals. The Ontario government funds the Ontario Hospital Association (OHA) to bargain provincial contracts centrally.

HHS will instead spend tens of thousands of dollars on duplicate bargaining and legal fees – money that should be spent on health care.

The media conference will also address the issue of critically low employee morale.
