Following the placement of an ad in the weekend papers (March 6, Halifax Chronicle-Herald) from a company called RJF Healthcare, it would appear the Halifax Regional School Board has handed over the hiring of scab labour to a private company.

700 instructional Support Staff, members of CUPE Local 108, are currently in contract talks with the Board and have given their union a 97% strike mandate.

The ad asks for “400+ people looking to work in healthcare”. In reality, as some of our own members found out when they went for interviews March 7, the company is looking to hire replacement workers for the HRSB in the event of a work stoppage.

Three more ‘job fairs’ are scheduled for this week. Local 108 members will be protesting the move at this weeks board meeting, and setting up information pickets at this weekends recruitment session in one of Halifaxs trendiest malls, the Park Lane Plaza.
