(Halifax) - ECE Teachers from at least six HRM child care centres will march to the provincial legislature this Wednesday.

The teachers, angry and frustrated about unstable funding for non-profit centres and poverty level wages, will shut down their centres for the day in what they are calling a ‘Day of Protest’ against the MacDonald government’s recently revamped funding formula.

They say the changes announced by Community Services Minister Judy Streatch could result in salary decreases, benefit decreases, staff layoffs, and/or possible centre closures.

They are urging parents who have children in non-profit centres to join them and to bring their children. Teachers at other centres are also being encouraged to join the protest.

(ATTENTION ASSIGNMENT/PHOTO EDITORS: ECE Teachers and their supporters will gather at Parade Square at 11:00 am, Wednesday April 4. From there they will march to The Art Gallery of Nova Scotia for an 11:30 a.m. News Conference being held by NDP Leader, Darrell Dexter. Following that, they will march to Province House. There will be speakers at both events.)
