The corporation that owns Ontarios toll Highway 407 is confident it will defeat a court challenge launched by the province. The McGuinty government brought the legal action after the company unilaterally hiked tolls on February 1.

While announcing an increase in net profits, SNC-Lavalins president said a friendly resolution to the dispute might be reached within six months. He maintains the company will win the case without hesitation because the basis of the dealwas the flexibility of the tolling.

The company has raised the toll six times since the former Conservative government signed off on the $3.1 billion privatization deal. Some peak-hour drivers have seen tolls double.

Calling it a formula for the future, SNC-Lavalin is actively looking into an extension of Highway 30 in Quebec. The Charest government has announced the stretch between Cht0065auguay and Vaudreuil-Dorion would be build with private cooperation.
