Ottawa – The Air Canada Component of the Airline Division of CUPE conducted a vote of Air Canadas offer of June 19, 1999, between June 25 and July 04, 1999. With 75% of the membership voting, the results are 89.2 % rejecting Air Canadas last offer.

This vote repeats a strong message to Air Canada of what flight attendants will and will not accept. We have repeatedly said that this round of bargaining is about respect and dignity stated Pamela Sachs, President of the Air Canada component. The key issues, which remain to be addressed, are improvements to retirement income, safer and healthier working conditions and no rollbacks to the current contract.

Air Canada has won several awards for superior in-flight passenger service. These awards are a direct result of the hard work and dedication of flight attendants. Productivity has increased and revenues for the airline are up. We want to see our fair share reflected in this round of bargaining, said Sachs.

The Company will be in a legal lock out position, and the Union in a legal strike position as of 00:01 EDT July 08. It is our intent to negotiate a fair and just agreement for our members by this deadline, concluded Sachs.
