TORONTO The Fearless Five from Montague, Prince Edward Island marked the one-year anniversary of their strike by following Premier Pat Binns to a fundraiser for his Tory party in downtown Toronto on Thursday, May 29.

The price of four tables inside would settle this strike, CUPE National President Judy Darcy told supporters rallying outside Rodneys Oyster House, where the $500-a-plate fundraiser was held. Premier Binns, you have the mussels to settle this strike. Do it now.

Binns recently spent $57,000 to donate a shipment of PEI mussels to Toronto restaurants trying to lure in customers during the SARS crisis. The strike against Southern Kings Group Home by the five members of CUPE Local 3373 could be settled for $44,000, CUPE PEI President Donalda MacDonald said.

She also called on Binns to bring in anti-scab legislation, noting that if there werent scabs, this strike wouldnt have lasted this long. The employer, MacDonald said, was marking the one-year anniversary with a party.

Take action now, Darcy told Binns, or youll see what happens when the largest union in Canada, and the whole labour movement, flexes its muscles.
