SYDNEY, NS - Licensed Practical Nurses (LPNs) at Braemore Home in Sydney ratified a three-year contract last evening that will finally bring them up to par with LPNs across the province. The 30 members of the Canadian Union of Public Employees Local 1478 will see economic increases of 2.9 per cent in each year of the contract. In addition, a rate adjustment will bring them up to speed with their counterparts in other unions.

Our members are very happy with this contract,” says CUPE National Representative John Evans. “In addition to the economic gains, the contract provides premium pay for casual employees when they work on holidays, which they didn’t have previously. The employer has finally recognized the value and importance of casual workers.”

CUPE Nova Scotia is the second largest union in the province with 16,000 members who work in health care, education, highways, universities, municipalities, home support, social services, child care and more.
