The federal Conservative government has unveiled details of the New Building Canada Fund.

The 10-year funding plan for municipal infrastructure imposes a mandatory public-private partnership (P3) screen on infrastructure projects with a capital cost over $100 million, paving the way for more privatization and taking away local decision-making powers.

There are other problems with the New Building Canada Fund. Changes to the allocation formula and back-end loading of the spending mean municipalities have less money than previous infrastructure programs.
