Calgary - The 83 employees who work at Renoir retirement residence have chosen CUPE to represent their interests with their employer. CUPE, Canadas largest union with nearly 500,000 members across Canada welcomes its new members.

CUPE has been actively organizing non-unionized employers throughout Alberta for the past several years. New members say that they are choosing CUPE because of its commitment to providing services and expertise at the local level. CUPE has six offices throughout Alberta.

The Renoir members represent our third new group in the Calgary area in less than a month, said Dianne Wyntjes, CUPE Regional Director in Alberta. CUPEs commitment to the labour movement is to concentrate on bringing the benefits of a union, that is, higher wages, better benefits and respect at work, to unorganized Alberta workers.

In the last month CUPE has organized the custodial employees of the Foothills School Division and the library employees at the Cochrane Public Library.
