Workers with the Lakehead District School Board began strike action March 22 to press for a wage increase after seven years without a raise.

The 165 members of Local 2468 include custodial, maintenance, cafeteria workers and couriers have been without a contract for 15 months. Backed by a 87% strike mandate, the walk out was triggered when Board negotiators broke off talks aimed at averting a strike.
