CUPE has won another representation vote in the school board sector in Ontario.

Last week, workers with the new Trillium Lakelands District School Board voted overwhelmingly to join CUPE.

Created from the amalgamation of the Victoria and Haliburton board and the Muskoka board, the new local includes 690 members.

Going into the vote, CUPE Local 997 had represented 114 custodial, maintenance and trades workers and 325 office workers and education assistants with the Victoria and Haliburton Boards. OSSTF and SEIU had represented the staff at the Muskoka board.

As a result of the vote, 249 new members have joined CUPE.
