The Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE) Ontario will hold a media conference Tuesday, August 19 at 10:00 a.m. at the Ajax Community Centre to outline how provincial underfunding and privatization are threatening the quality of local public services.

Residents have bought and paid for these public services and yet the province is doing nothing while deep cuts are made to hospital services. Our most vulnerable children in schools are also affected as school boards continue to struggle with underfunding,” says CUPE Ontario President Sid Ryan.

The media conference will also address the loss of good jobs and the resulting economic impact on local communities when governments contract out services to private operators or enter into expensive public-private partnerships (P3s) to build community facilities.

Date:                        Tuesday, August 19, 2008
