David Laird is a Child Protection Worker with The Children’s Aid Society of Toronto and a member of CUPE Local 2316. He has worked in various positions at the agency, serving the needs of children and families for the past 20 years.

Says Laird: “We need a government that is committed to public health care and an MP that will ensure funds are available to improve services at Joseph Brant Hospital. Health care builds strong communities.”

WORKING FOR REAL SOLUTIONS

Laird has successfully represented New Democrats in Burlington through four elections and is committed to:

  • Working to eliminate senior poverty through real enhancements to the GIS and by working with others to strengthen the Canada Pension Plan.
  • Reducing the tax burden on local families by removing the federal portion of the HST off of essentials such as home heating.
  • Advocating for an increase to the federal health transfer and by ensuring our local hospital has the resources it needs for its re-development.
  • Supporting economic development through a national housing program and through the establishment of a Canadian Green Energy Industry.

SERVING THE COMMUNITY

For the last fifteen years, Laird has become increasingly active in the community promoting such issues as fair trade, social equality and global financial reform.

Laird was born and raised in Toronto. He attended York University and earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in English Literature. He lives in Burlington with his wife Guylaine and their two children.
