(St. John’s) – CUPE Newfoundland and Labrador President Wayne Lucas says his union hopes to have some inconsistencies that have surfaced about the payment of retroactive pay resolved as early as today.

Says Lucas, “What appears to be a difference of interpretation regarding some Labour Relations Board orders has resulted in a delay in the payments.  We have told these employers in no uncertain terms that this situation is unacceptable.

CUPE has its legal staff working on resolving this issue.  It is unacceptable that managers have already received their retroactive pay and frontline health care workers have not,” says Lucas.

Our staff are working with Treasury Board and the employers to fix this problem.  CUPE members signed an agreement in good faith and we expect them to honour this agreement,” he says.
