Despite being outnumbered almost three-to-one going into the vote, CUPE Local 2357 received 208 votes to 193 for the Employee Association of Ottawa-Carleton in a representation vote held on Tuesday, August 25.

CUPE Local 2357 represents clerical staff at the board office and schools, teaching assistants and library technicians at the Ottawa-Carleton Catholic School Board.

More than 98 per cent of CUPE members turned out for the vote, the second victory for CUPE in the newly merged school board.

We really owe a lot to the organizing support and training we received through the Ontario School Boards Coordinating Committee”, said Wendy Schieman.

Schieman gave special credit to CUPE’s Union Development Department for its extra effort in preparing local activists to win school board votes across the province.
