TORONTO – The union representing almost 500 TTC electrical, signal and communications workers is giving the public notice of a withdrawal of services commencing 4 a.m., Monday, April 21.

The key monetary issues on the table are as important to our members as they are our sisters and brothers in ATU,” said Mike Santos, president of CUPE Local 2. “If anyone is on the picket line, we are all on the picket line.” CUPE and Toronto Transit Commission negotiators had agreed to put monetary issues over to the ATU table for negotiation.

At the same time,” Santos said, “we expect that if ATU and TTC reach an agreement prior to the strike deadline, the commission negotiators will immediately make themselves available to us to resolve our outstanding issues and avert job action.”

The members of CUPE Local 2 maintain subway signals and electrical and communications systems for the entire transit network.
