Edmonton 69 general support employees at the Westview Health Centre in Stony Plain, are new members of the Canadian Union of Public Employees Local 1158. The former members of AUPE voted overwhelmingly in support of joining CUPE today in a Labour Board supervised vote.

These hospital employees told us they were looking for a union more responsive to their needs and a better collective agreement. They took a look at the evidence and they chose CUPE, said CUPE Alberta president Yvonne Fast.

We are thrilled to be coming to a Union that respects, listens and will fight for our members at Westview Health Centre in Stony Plain, said Marilyn Vik, Chairperson of the former AUPE Local.

CUPE represents workers in Edmonton and surrounding areas at the Royal Alexandra, Grey Nuns, Edmonton General, Misericordia, Leduc, Devon and Sturgeon Hospitals.

CUPEs membership in Alberta stands at over 31,000 with over 12,000 in health care. In the last year CUPE membership has climbed by 1,100.
