CUPE is supporting a national boycott of Sears Canada, launched at the request of the United Steel Workers and the Canadian Labour Congress.

On April 1, 2010, Sears Canada locked-out 500 members at a Sears warehouse and distribution centre in Vaughn, Ontario. This came after the company sought rollbacks in pension, healthcare benefits, vacation entitlements and other provisions during negotiations in late March. The company walked away from the bargaining table and refused to return.

“CUPE stands firmly behind these workers,” said CUPE National President Paul Moist. “We are asking our members to help send a clear message that we will stand together and defend the benefits that workers have fought for.”
