Paul Moist has sent the following letter to Sister Angela Lynes and Brother David Prentis, the president and general secretary of UNISON - CUPE’s sister union in the United Kingdom.  Moist offers CUPE’s support and solidarity as British workers prepare to gather in London on March 26th for a mass rally organized by the Trades Union Congress.

Dear Sister Angela and Brother Dave:

On the eve of your massive TUC rally in defense of Britain’s public services, please accept this message of solidarity on behalf of the 600,000 members of the Canadian Union of Public Employees.

CUPE members stand with you in rejecting the Cameron government’s austerity measures which will lead to hundreds of thousands of layoffs and reduced public services for citizens, many of whom are the most vulnerable in society and in need of the services provided by UNISON members.

Prime Minister Cameron’s so-called “Big Society” is really a “Big Lie” and your mass rally will serve to connect you with the community in order to push back against these regressive moves.

All the best to all members of UNISON. Please know CUPE members stand with you in spirit… marching for public services.

In solidarity,

Paul Moist
National President
