Today, delegates from municipal locals across Saskatchewan are gathering in Saskatoon at the annual CUPE Saskatchewan Municipal Employees Committee Conference.
The conference opened with greetings from CUPE National President Mark Hancock, CUPE Saskatchewan President Kent Peterson, and CUPE Saskatchewan Regional Director Lori Sutherland. Throughout the day, delegates are taking part in discussions on key topics for municipal workers, including use of coordinated bargaining as a way to strengthen collective bargaining power, municipal budgets, privatization, and occupational health and safety.
Speakers are highlighting the importance of protecting quality municipal services and ensuring workers have the resources and support they need to deliver them. Delegates are sharing experiences from their communities and exploring ways to strengthen collaboration and solidarity across the province.
The SMEC Conference continues to be an important space for CUPE municipal members to connect, learn, and work together to support strong public services in Saskatchewan.
