HALIFAX - CUPE Local 4403 has a new contract with the Town of Kentville and its 20 outside workers.

CUPE National Representative, Naomi Stewart says the three-year deal runs from April 1, 2012 to March 31, 2015. Highlights of the deal include:

  • Wage increase of 3.75 per cent, 3.25 per cent and 2.75 per cent or a COLA clause (whichever is higher).
      
  • Participation in the multi-sector pension plan, a union-sponsored plan that is geared towards smaller employer groups. For more info visit www.mspp.ca.
      
  • Creation of a “time in lieu” bank.
      
  • Improvements to family leave time.
      

Local 4403 President LeRoy Dillman says, “The employees are pleased with the improvements we were able to get. We were happy to get through this round of bargaining and make these important additions to our Collective Agreement.”

The employer also deserves credit for conducting bargaining in a fair and reasonable manner,” he says.

CUPE represents the positions of Mechanic, Operator/Labourer, Skilled Labourer, Truck Driver, Labourer, Arena Attendant, Small Equipment Operator, Water Operator, Custodians for Public Works/Water Commission/Parks and Recreation.
