(TORONTO) - Given the tragic crash of American Airline flight 587 this morning in New York City, plans for rallies to demand government action to support a second national airline in Canada are being changed in some centres.

The Canadian Union of Public Employees is calling on its flight attendants from all airline carriers to gather with pilots, and with airport services ground staff represented by the CAW, to mark this sad occasion and to underline the importance of a safe, viable airline industry in Canada.

  • In Toronto, the rally outside David Collenette’s office has been cancelled. Instead, CUPE, the CAW, and pilots’ unions will gather at the Airport Delta, 801 Dixon Road, at 15h00.
  • In Montreal, the location of today’s gathering remains unchanged: Canada 3000 airport hangar, Dorval airport, at 15h00.
  • In Vancouver, airlines workers will meet at a yet-to-be determined location, at 12 noon. Please see Vancouver contact info below.
  • In Halfax, airlines workers will now meet at Delta Barrington Hotel, in the Thomas A room, at 16h00.

All above times are local.

The Airline Division of CUPE represents 11,000 flight attendants at most carriers in Canada.
