The union representing more than 400 school board workers with the Chignecto Central Regional School Board will head to conciliation talks with the board on Wednesday, October 9.

CUPE National Representative Betty Jean Sutherland said, “We have requested the assistance of the Department of Labour after reaching an impasse on the issue of contracting out and how it affects job security for members of Local 3890.”

CUPE Local 3890 President Ron Davis said, “For us, this is the key issue in this round of bargaining.  While a negotiated settlement is always the preferred option in a labour dispute, our members have said the threat of contracting out must be addressed.”

Local 3890 represents bus drivers, custodians and tradespeople with the Chignecto Board.
