CUPE members in Prince Edward Island are demonstrating their support for injured workers in the province.

CUPE P.E.I. President, Bill MacKinnon, supported a recent sit-in by injured workers at the provincial legislature building saying the sit-in should be a wake-up call for all working people in the province.

In a letter to the editor he pointed out that the province has the right to “deem” people capable of working and then cut their benefits.

“The missing link in this process”, said MacKinnon, “is that the Workers Compensation Board has the power to d0065em injured workers capable of certain jobs but has no obligation to find them this so-called job or even wait until they can find one. In fact, the job does not even have to exist in P.E.I. It simply has to exist and that is beyond insane.”
