In a pre-budget presentation at Queens Park this past week, CUPE Ontario president Sid Ryan told the Ontario Tories their hard-line, tax cutting ideology is not only myopic and a disaster for public services, it has also proven dangerous for the health and well-being of the people of Ontario.
Citing policy messes such as hydro privatization, social spending cuts and growing for-profit health care, Ryan told the committee tax cuts, privatization, deregulation and the sacrifice of public services to private profits doesnt work. It doesnt cost less, it doesnt provide better, more reliable, more accessible public services and it isnt more efficient.
He called on the government to hike education spending by $2.1 billion, scrap P3 hospitals and private clinics, stop hydro privatization and deregulation, and increase funding for post-secondary education.
