(Halifax) – CUPE Nova Scotia will hold its 46th annual convention in Halifax, Sunday, April 26 through Wednesday, April 29 at the Holiday Inn Harbourview.  Convention proceedings will get underway at 7:00 pm, April 26.

The Canadian Union of Public Employees is Canada’s largest union, representing 590,000 working women and men across the country, including almost 16,000 here in Nova Scotia.

Guest speakers include:

• Darrell Dexter, N.S. NDP Leader, 11:00 am, April 27

• Paul Moist, CUPE National President, 1:30 pm, April 27

• Rick Clarke, President Nova Scotia Federation of Labour, 9:00 am, April 28

• Claude Genereux, CUPE National Secretary-Treasurer, 1:30 am, April 28

Among the issues being discussed and debated at convention will be the upcoming provincial budget – if we ever see one - the fight to keep our water resources public in Canada and ‘big box’ child care coming to Halifax.
