(Grand Falls-Windsor) –  CUPE Locals gathered in Grand Falls-Windsor for their provincial convention have donated $14,800 to the soon to be completed Daffodil Place.

CUPE NL President Wayne Lucas calls the outpouring of support a tribute to the hard working women and men of his union, and the commitment they have to their communities.

Daffodil Place is a project of the Canadian Cancer Society.  The facility in St. John’s is a residence for families of cancer patients who are being treated in town.

Lucas says, “The locals pledged $7,400 from the floor of convention and our National Secretary-Treasurer Claude Genereux – who was attending convention – got up and matched it on the spot.

As CUPE’s spokesperson here in NL, I can tell you it was a very proud moment for me and all of the CUPE activists from across the province.  We are very pleased to be able to help these families out in some small way.”
