SASKATOON: The National President of the Canadian Union of Public Employees will speak at a rally tonight at City Hall Square organized by Saskatoon Public Library workers.

Judy Darcy will address the 250 library workers, members of CUPE Local 2669, and supporters at the rally, which will begin at 8:00 p.m.

Meanwhile, the union confirmed today that stalled contract talks will resume on Friday. The Union has agreed to no further strike action following the rally pending the results of bargaining on Friday.

We received a call from library management yesterday afternoon to get back to the bargaining table, said Gwen Thomson, president of CUPE Local 2669. Were hopeful that we will be able to negotiate a fair contract that will respect library workers.

The library workers have undertaken a series of rotating job actions since the breakdown of negotiations on September 20.

The union wants to negotiate a pay equity plan to achieve equal pay for work of equal value. They are also seeking improvements to parental leave and protection against contracting out and technological change.

The library workers have been without a new agreement since March 31, 2001.
