PEMBROKE, Ont. – Paul Moist, National President of the Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE), will join striking members of CUPE Local 4989 on their picket lines tomorrow, June 27, at 9 a.m.
Since May 10, the 22 members of Local 4989 who administer Ontario Works have been on strike to defend the important public services they deliver to residents of the County of Renfrew and protect the people who provide those services.
Mr. Moist’s visit coincides with Renfrew County Council’s final meeting on June 28, before the summer break. Striking staff and their supporters are urging the County to do the right thing and negotiate a fair collective agreement that protects public services Renfrew County residents depend on.
