HALIFAX – Canadian Union of Public Employees National President Paul Moist will walk the picket line with locked out workers from CUPE Locals 227 and 1431 today. He’ll be joined on the picket line by CUPE Nova Scotia President Danny Cavanagh.

“I am proud to join my Sisters and Brothers as they begin their 9th week in lock out,” Moist said. “This is a fight for decent pension benefits, not only for our members, but for all the workers in this pension plan. These members have the unwavering support of 633,000 CUPE members across Canada.”

The workers were locked out by Halifax Water on May 19, following an attempt to weaken the Water Commission’s employee pension plan. A tentative agreement was reached on July 11 and will be presented to the members for a ratification vote this week.
