Sisters and Brothers:
It is with great sadness that I advise that Brother Ed Blackman has passed away after a short illness.
Brother Blackman was the President of my home local, Local 500, representing Winnipeg Civic Employees for 17 years. He also served as a General Vice-President on CUPE’s National Executive Board.
Brother Ed was a true gentleman and a great leader. He was highly respected by members, civic management and members of city council alike.
On behalf of our entire union I wish to extend sincere condolences to his wife Shirlee, and his entire family.
Brother Ed Blackman was for me both an inspiration and a friend, he will be greatly missed.
