BURNABY—After careful consultation, CUPE BC has released its list of more than 180 endorsed candidates for the Saturday, November 15 community elections. The list covers city council and board of education candidates from across B.C.

The list was compiled through CUPE members and locals asking questions of the candidates in their districts. Those questions dealt with local concerns as well as issues of special importance to CUPE members. These included candidate positions on privatization, environmental issues and maintaining public services.

In some areas, CUPE locals worked with their local labour councils in choosing candidates. In others, responses were gleaned from all-candidates meetings.

Now that the candidate list is available we encourage all CUPE members to get out and vote! The turnout for community elections is historically very low – so if we vote, we can really make a difference!
