National Secretary-Treasurer Candace Rennick, Regional Vice-President for Ontario Yolanda McClean, CUPE Human Rights Director Elizabeth Dandy, and Executive Assistant Andrea Addario are bringing our union’s voice to the meetings. Our message is clear: ending women’s poverty starts with strong unions and quality public services.
Over the next two weeks, governments will negotiate an agreement on how to tackle women’s poverty. Unions are demanding that the agreement recognize fundamental labour rights, the importance of investment in public care services, and the crucial role publicly provided social programs play in preventing women’s poverty.
This is the 68th annual Commission on the Status of Women, CSW68. The priority theme for this year’s discussion is “accelerating the achievement of gender equality and the empowerment of all women and girls by addressing poverty and strengthening institutions and financing with a gender perspective.” You can learn more about the UNCSW and the labour movement’s demands at the Public Services International CSW hub.
