(New Glasgow) – CUPE hospital workers in Pictou, Annapolis and Yarmouth have given their union a strong strike mandate.

CUPE Acute Care Co-ordinator, Wayne Thomas says, “Six more groups of Health Care and Service workers in three District Health Authorities (DHA’s) have given their negotiating committee a strong show of support.”

The latest group of hospital workers includes:

• DHA 2 in Yarmouth, members of CUPE Local 835

• DHA 3 in Annapolis, members of CUPE Local 4150

• DHA 6 in Pictou, members of CUPE Local 2525

Eighteen groups of CUPE hospital workers across the province outside the Capital District are holding strike votes.

Earlier this month, CUPE announced there would be no job action in the hospital sector before January 11, 2010 because of the H1N1 pandemic.
