For the first time in the series of representation votes taking place in Ontario school boards, CUPE has had a win without a vote.

Under the Harris government’s Bill 136, this can only happen if the unions in question and the employer agree.

With just 74 members compared to CUPE’s over 400, SEIU withdrew from the balloting, leaving the 510 employees of the London Catholic District School Board as proud new members of Local 4186.

Local president Jim Squires says the local soon hopes to expand further to include the 150 - 200 lunch-time supervisors working with the board.
