(Halifax) – Contract talks between the cleaning staff at the VG Hospital and Dixon Building sites of the QEII have broken off and CUPE has applied for conciliation with the Department of Labour.

CUPE National Representative Larry Power says, “The 100 members of Local 2761 who are employed by Crothall Canada, a division of the Compass Group, wasted little time in taking a strike vote.

They have voted 95% in favour of strike action, which will hopefully show this employer how serious they are about negotiating a new contract that is both fair and reasonable,” says Power.

Power says the main outstanding issues are wages, sick leave and pensions.
