Unions play a vital role in promoting a better environment and fighting climate change.  Unions must also push for just transition programs for workers affected by necessary changes toward a greener economy.

Our federal Conservative minority government needs to fundamentally change its direction on these issues.

CUPE will be sending a delegation to the United Nation conference on climate change next week.  We will be networking with other unions and civil society organizations to push for global targets and action.  We will also put pressure on our own government to do the right thing for future generations.

Our delegation is comprised of:

Claude Généreux, CUPE National Secretary-Treasurer;

Carolyn Unsworth, co-chair of the CUPE National Environment Committee and HEU member from New Westminster, BC;

Carina Ebnoether, member of the CUPE National Environment Committee from the Airline Division;

Matthew Firth, CUPE researcher and staff liaison to the CUPE National Environment Committee;

Pierre Ducasse, CUPE seniorcommunications officer.
