Sydney CUPE Local 1478 has asked the provincial Department of Labour to appoint a conciliator to its contract talks with Braemore Home in Sydney River.

CUPE represents 40 Licensed Practical Nurses (LPNs) at the continuing care facility. CUPE National Representative Kathy Macleod says the main issues in dispute are benefits, shift differentials and charge pay.

Both sides have now met four times with no sign of a negotiated settlement in sight.
