CUPE National President Paul Moist will be a guest speaker at the Annual General Meeting of CoDevelopment Canada (CoDev) taking place in Vancouver today.

As guest speaker, Moist will report to the group on the recent Labour Leaders Tour of Colombia.

In addition, Moist will present CoDev with a $100,000 cheque from CUPE’s Global Justice (Union Aid) fund – created and developed from volunteer donations made by thousands of CUPE members from one end of Canada to another.

“We are extremely proud of CUPE members’ generosity,” says Moist. “In fact, it never ceases to amaze me how CUPE’s working sisters and brothers remember, with their generosity, the importance of supporting others in the world who pursue justice and fairness.”

The presentation will take place in the auditorium of the Hastings Community Centre (3096 East Hastings Street, Vancouver).

CoDev is a BC-based non-profit agency that works for social change and global education in the Americas. CoDev was founded in 1985 by a group of activists who wanted to go beyond simply sending financial aid to Latin American countries. The group brings together like-minded organizations, in Canada and Latin America as vehicles for learning, social change, and personal empowerment.

“CUPE is pleased to be able to provide some support to help CoDev achieve, in other parts of the world, objectives very much related to the quality public services CUPE members are delivering right here in Canada.

CUPE’s donation will help CoDev to establish a CUPE Endowment fund, the interest of which will be used to fund campaign work to help promote strong public services in the southern hemisphere.
