CUPE Alberta president DArcy Lanovaz told the provincial government that it should delay plans to take over municipal ambulance services.

The government announced this week it would cost $120 million (instead of $55 million) to take over ambulance services from various Alberta municipalities.

The health regions are not ready, the costs are skyrocketing, and ambulance service is going to suffer, said Lanovaz. This is becoming a mess.

Lanovaz said that the new price tag is likely still too low because it doesnt include the cost of buying assets from the municipalities.

I’m worried that the province wants to run a pared down ambulance service, because with the money they are putting up, there will be cut backs.
