Holiday channel surfers will be hearing from CUPE about privatization in the next month.

CUPE has developed a 30-second advertisement, using the anti-privatization dominoes video. The ad will be running on TV listings channels over the holidays and early in 2009.

TV listings channels operate everywhere in Canada except Quebec, where a separate ad run is in the works for early January. Over the holidays, the channels get a lot of visitors from people checking what’s on in place of their regular shows - or looking for holiday specials. The ads will air Dec. 15 to Jan 12, with dates varying by province.

The ad, and longer video on which it is based, were both produced by Montreal-based Ian Morin.

UPDATE: The ad won the Canadian Association of Labour Media’s award for best commercial television ad in May 2009.
