CUPE Local 500 members have approved the tentative agreement between the City of Winnipeg and CUPE Local 500 by 84 percent.

In total, 2487 members voted on the new agreement with 2091 in favour, 393 opposed and 3 spoiled ballots.

CUPE Local 500 represents 5,000 city employees. The contract between CUPE and the City of Winnipeg expired December 25, 1999. The new tentative agreement was reached April 28, 2000 with the help of Wally Fox-Decent who was appointed mediator by the Provincial Government.

Local 500 members voted on the contract all day Friday, May 12.
