CUPE 4840, the 150 employees of the Cape Breton Regional Housing Authority, still hasn’t negotiated its first contract (tentative dates for commencing bargaining are set for early April) but has already started producing a newsletter!

CUPE National Rep. John Evans says, “The Executive and Shop Stewards have been attending all kinds of workshops here in Sydney. The President, Kenny Rose, attended leadership training on his own dime two weekends ago in Halifax and Lori Beaton, secretary of the local, will be attending the Women’s Conference in Halifax this weekend.”

Evans says one of the more established locals in Sydney, Local 759  outside workers with the Cape Breton Regional Municipality, has donated $300 to the new local to assist them in attending the Division convention in April.
