Some 7,000 members of CUPE 416 have a new, three-year contract with the City of Toronto, which gives them job security, protection against contracting out and wage gains.

Local 416 members ratified the contract by a vote of 74 per cent last week.

The contract is the first for Local 416 members under the amalgamated City of Toronto. Highlights of the deal include:

  • wage increases of 7.4 per cent, plus signing bonus;
  • an additional wage increase of 6.5 per cent for some 700 paramedics;
  • language which makes it financially punitive for the City to contract out CUPE jobs;
  • bargaining unit wide seniority (something which was missing from the old M0065tro’ and Toronto contracts).
