CUPE 227 has ratified a new, five-year deal with the Halifax Regional Water Commission (HRWC).

CUPE National Representative Marianne Welsh says, “The members have voted 76% in favour of the new agreement.

It is the first agreement since the merger of water and wastewater services in HRM.  HRM transferred wastewater services to HRWC on August 01, 2007.  The parties met more than 30 times over the past two years.  It was a challenging round of bargaining for the Local.

Welsh says it is a five-year agreement running from November 01, 2008 to October 31, 2013.

The wage increases are 2%, 2%, 2%, 2% and 1.5%.
