CUPE 1550’s Aboriginal Council celebrated National Aboriginal Day at the Health Sciences Centre in Winnipeg.

Council chairperson Shirley Langan and council members Kathy White and Wayne Meeches took pride greeting staff, visitors and patients at the hospital with a large display of educational material on traditional Aboriginal history.

Aboriginal culture was also on display, as other participants exchanged tobacco and sweet grass, admired a jingle dress and special headdress, and learned about traditional medicines. Draw prizes were available for CUPE members.

CUPE 1550’s Aboriginal Council was created in 2007. Since then, the promotion of National Aboriginal Day has become an important part of the community at the Health Sciences Centre, Manitoba’s largest health care facility.
